Thailand Leads the Charge as X-15 Class Makes Impactful Debut at the 44th Singapore Open
Singapore – February 18, 2025 — The X-15 Class made an electrifying debut at the 44th Singapore Open Windsurfing, Wing & Wind Foiling Championships, held from February 14–18 at Constant Wind Sea Sports Centre. The event gathered elite wind sports athletes from across Asia, marking a milestone for the fast-growing one-design wingfoil class.
Competing in high heat and steady breeze, sailors from Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines tested their skills on Singapore’s signature slalom courses. The X-15 Class was split into two divisions—Group A and Group B—allowing a larger field of riders to race competitively across the fleet.
Thailand’s dominance was clear, with Whatcharpong Juntham winning Group A with a commanding 7-point net score. Fellow Thai Itsarakul Boonchird clinched Group B victory with 9 points, highlighting the country’s strong youth development in wingfoiling.
“It was an incredible few days on the water,” said one coach from the Thai contingent. “The X-15 is a perfect tool for preparing young athletes for high-performance foiling.”
Singapore’s own riders gained valuable experience racing against international talent, while the Philippines and Hong Kong sailors added further depth and energy to the fleet. With short-course slalom formats, every race demanded precision, control, and quick tactical decisions—offering an ideal platform for skill development.
