Pattaya, Thailand – December 2024 — The Pattaya International Windsurfing Championships concluded with a spectacular showcase of the X-15 Class Wingfoil One Design races, marking a thrilling end to the 2024 competitive season. The event attracted 25 competitors from across Asia and Europe, including Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Italy, and Hong Kong, highlighting the growing global appeal of wingfoiling.
The competition commenced with two days of intensive training, featuring practice races and coaching led by professional waterwoman and X-15 Class Manager, Fiona Wylde. Her expert guidance was instrumental in preparing the athletes for the challenges ahead.
Due to limited equipment availability, with only 15 sets of X-15 gear provided free of charge, the fleet was divided into two groups. This arrangement fostered a spirit of camaraderie as competitors adapted to sharing equipment. After the initial day of racing, fleets were re-seeded based on results to ensure fair and competitive matchups.
The final day featured intense competition, with the top half of each fleet advancing to the Final to vie for positions 1 through 12, while the remaining racers competed for positions 13 through 25. Each fleet completed three races daily, culminating in a total of nine races per sailor and 18 X-15 Class starts throughout the regatta. In addition to overall standings, individual categories for U19, Masters, and Women’s divisions were scored separately, adding depth to the competition.
