The X-15 Class Youth Clinic was an informal clinic organised by Surfcenter and coached by Julian Koldeweid (13yrs). The event took place on July 22, 2023, at the Surfcenter in Steendam near the Schildmeer, in the north of The Netherlands. Despite rain most of the day and the wind was at max. 5 knots during the rainy periods, the clinic radiated positivity and provided young wing enthusiasts with a fantastic introduction to the thrilling world of racing on advanced wing gear, getting to try out the sponsored X-15 Class sets.
8 enthusiastic riders showed up for the demo on land, of which 4 skilled kids managed the fly on the X-15 gear. After the rain and the wind picked up a little, the riders could do a fun race and challenged the iQFoiL kids on the water. It was fun to see all this young blood pushing each other while having fun.
After being on the water for about 2 hours, we did a little uninformed evaluation. The kids shared the joy of racing together on the water. All kids really loved the gear and would like to have it to train for a potential Olympics. The kids were able to race immediately and hardly had to adjust, they were flying in 6-9 knots with the 6.7m2. It has to be noted that the level of all the kids that went on the water, was high. All the kids helped with packing the stuff and that was fun too. Also important to note is that all kids also were cautious of the equipment and helped each other to prevent damage to the gear and each other.
The X-15 Youth Clinic at Surfcenter was a shining example of positivity and share the joy of winging. The event highlighted the resilience and determination of young wing enthusiasts, who embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. The celebration of winging, even in less than ideal conditions, demonstrated the profound impact that passion and positivity can have on creating a memorable and uplifting experience.
As the kids left the clinic with newfound skills and unforgettable memories, they also carried with them a sense of empowerment and inspiration to continue their wing journey. The X-15 Youth Wing Clinic will be remembered for the introduction to professional wing foiling and the spirit of unity, joy, making new friends and positivity that filled the day.
